Creatives in Conversation - Daniel Day-Lewis
Daniel Day-Lewis announced his retirement from from screen acting in 2017.This was after an acclaimed performance as obsessive dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock in Phantom Thread directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

He's known for getting into character, and staying in character for the duration of a shoot; stepping into the shoes of the wrongfully imprisoned Gerry Conlon, building a house in advance of shooting The Crucible, and learning the finer points of butchery, to appear as Bill the Butcher, in Martin Scorsese’s film, Gangs of New York.
In 2005 he spoke to Myles Dungan on Rattlebag about The Ballad of Jack and Rose, written and directed by his wife Rebecca Miller. The film tells the story of Jack and his daughter Rose, who live in an island community, on the American East Coast. Jack is struggling with illness, and has to reckon with Rose’s coming of age.She in turn has to deal with his search for companionship.
The interview begins with Daniel’s first reaction to the script, which he read well in advance of meeting its author.
