CMAT was named the winner of the Choice Music Prize for Album Of The Year, for her debut If My Wife New I'd Be Dead, at a live awards ceremony in Vicar Street, Dublin.

The prize was announced by last year's Choice Prize winner, Dave Balfe, AKA For Those I Love. Irish Drag Queen Lavender collected the award on her behalf as CMAT (alias Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson) is away on tour.

The 18th annual RTÉ Choice Music Prize, once again, celebrated the best in Irish recorded music. The Prize has become one of the music-industry highlights of the year since its inception in 2005.

Conor Curley from Fontaines D.C. picked up the band's Irish Artist of the Year prize, while Moncrieff accepted the Song of the Year prize virtually from Los Angeles for his single Warm - the song was selected from a shortlist of 10 songs by public vote.

Cian Ducrot was named the Breakthrough Irish Artist of the Year, while Sinead O'Connor made a rare public appearance to receive her prize for Irish Classic Album, presented by Dave Fanning, for her seminal 1990 release I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.

The event, hosted by RTÉ 2FM's Tracy Clifford and broadcast live on RTÉ 2FM featured exclusive performances from several of the Choice Prize the nominees, including Just Mustard, Aoife Nessa Frances, Pillow Queens, Anna Mieke and Thumper.

The winner receives a cheque for €10,000, a prize which has been provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), as well as a specially commissioned award.

RTÉ2 will broadcast a one-hour TV programme of the RTÉ Choice Music Prize, featuring live performances, along with interviews by Bláthnaid Treacy on Thursday 16th March at 10.30 pm.
