Michelle hails from Tullycrine, in scenic West Clare and coming from a farming background, she grew up with an eye on the weather. Her favourite subject through her school years in Tullycrine N.S. and Kilrush Community School was mathematics, so it was an easy decision to choose "Applied Mathematics & Computing" as her degree course, at the University of Limerick. She followed this with a master's degree in Financial & Industrial Mathematics at Dublin City University.
She then embarked on a travel filled career in the IT industry, working as an" information analyst" in Dublin, Belgium and England. During this time, she enjoyed a round the world trip, and while this love of travel remains; she knows there's no place like Ireland to come home to!
Her joint interests of mathematics and the weather led her to a meteorologist position with Met Éireann in 2005. She completed a second master's; this one in meteorology in UCD, before taking up an aviation forecasting role at Shannon airport, a role she's enjoyed since 2006. Michelle's been on duty for all sorts of varied and extreme weather and hazards, including record wind gusts at both Shannon and Dublin airports. She joined the RTÉ TV weather team in early 2016 and enjoys the additional challenge of relaying the all-important weather forecast to the public.
When not working, Michelle loves nothing better than catching up with family and friends and being out and about running, especially back home on the country roads with the family's springer spaniel, Buster. Neither Michelle nor Buster mind getting out in the rain! She's ran the Dublin, Berlin and Paris marathons, raising funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland in doing so. Michelle is a member of the Irish Meteorological Society and has given talks to and on behalf of the society, on aviation forecasting. Other interests include dancing and fashion.
