Earth Rising is a festival of eco-related programming showcasing the most exciting innovators in the field of citizen science, design and creativity. Ahead of this Autumn's event, we headed to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) to talk with the artists and exhibitors that made the first one so magical.

Art and creativity are things we've returned to again and again on Ecolution. Because in order to find solutions to problems as complex as those facing us, we need every possible angle to be looked at. And the ingenuity of creators, makers and designers, used to thinking outside the box, can really help get us out of the mess that we're in.
Last autumn the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) hosted their inaugural Earth Rising event. A festival of eco related programming showcasing the most exciting innovators in the field of eco citizen science, design & creativity. And its aim was to empower audiences to become agents of change.
It's due to return again in September. So we thought we'd share what felt so special about the event last year. It gathered artists, musicians scientists and creative people from across the country; all intent on inspiring, educating and sharing creative responses to the climate and biodiversity crisis.
Environmentalist and Eco Eye Presenter Anja Murray opened proceedings.
Earth Rising is a festival that celebrates possibility by finding creative hope in make and do. And Anja Murray knows just how important a communication tool Art can be.
"We need more artists to engage in these issues or we're not going to get the weight of cultural change that we need without greater participation in the subject of climate"
Well, we sent cub reporter Rosa to investigate all that could be experienced.
Along the way we met the Doughan Collective with their Climate Snakes and Ladders. Kids making portraits of Bjork and David Attenborough from waste materials. Spooky Beore making costumes, masks and an eco panto. And Monkeyshine presenting kids an opportunity to Create the Future.
For those of you that would like to hear more of Monkeyshine’s work, they made a beautiful radio piece called The Listener which you can listen to here.
Earth Rising returns for a four day event that will take place at IMMA from the 21-24 September, 2023.
