Shane Ryan will make history in Paris later this month when he becomes the first Irish male swimmer to compete in three Olympic Games.

Ryan has been chosen to swim the freestyle leg in the men's medley relay squad alongside Conor Ferguson (backstroke) Darragh Greene (breaststroke) and Max McCusker (butterfly).

Ireland will have 12 swimmers in Paris in total and will also send two women's relay squads, as they compete in the the 4x100m medley and freestyle relays.

The women's medley squad at the moment is Daniel Hill, Mona McSharry and Ellen Walshe, with the freestyle leg to be decided after the 4x100m freestyle relay.

That 4x100m team will comprise of Danielle Hill, Victoria Catterson, Erin Riordan and Grace Davison.

Tom Fannon will take to the blocks in the 50m freestyle.

Ireland's top individual hopes rest on the shoulders of Daniel Wiffen, who is competing in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle, and Mona McSharry, who made the final of the women's 100m breaststroke in Tokyo three years ago.

McSharry has qualified for both the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Swim Ireland will also send diver Ciara McGing to Paris to compete in the 10m platform event, while Jake Passmore takes part in the 3m springboard.

Ireland's swimmers and divers will go into camp at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin on 17 July ahead of their departure for Paris.
