Comedian Tadhg Hickey writes an addiction memoir about his relationship with alcohol and how it grew to dominate his life. Recounting the ups and downs of intoxication as well as the lengths of self-deception one goes to, ultimately, Hickey forges a path of redemption.

Horses Of God - Mahi Binebine (2013)

On May 16, 2003, fourteen suicide bombers launched a series of attacks throughout Casablanca. It was the deadliest attack in Morocco's history. The bombers came from the shantytowns of Sidi Moumen, a poor suburb on the edge of a dump. Horses of God follows four childhood friends growing up here as they make the life-changing decisions that will lead them to become Islamist martyrs. It is narrated by Yachine, one of these friends, from the afterlife.

The Bee Sting – Paul Murray (2023)

The dysfunctional Barnes family are in trouble. Dickie's once-lucrative car business is facing the wall. He ignores the impending fallout by building an apocalypse-proof bunker in the woods. The Fell – Sarah Moss (2021)

Set in the latter part of 2020 during the Covid pandemic, Moss tells the story of Kate who is isolating when she decides to break quarantine rules and step into the deserted moors in the Peak District. Her teenage son Matt is oblivious to her leaving while Alice, her elderly neighbour, spots her. Kate, who planned only a quick solitary walk – a breath of open air – falls and badly injures herself. What began as a furtive walk turns into a mountain-rescue operation.

1984 – George Orwell (1949)

Winston Smith is an everyman for his times working at the Ministry of Truth. He dreams of rebellion and forms a shadowy resistance group called the Brotherhood with his colleague Julia who he has started a relationship with. However, they are arrested and he is subjected to to months of psychological manipulation and torture by the Ministry of Love.
