To celebrate 13 years of Crash Ensemble's Free State initiative, which showcases contemporary Irish composers, the acclaimed new music ensemble have released a compilation album showcasing the finest contemporary music in Ireland from the past decade, given the Crash Ensemble treatment.

Free State began life as an open call and annual concert of up-and-coming Irish composers or composers resident in Ireland, showcasing their current practice and existing works. In the last 3 years it developed into a project in which Crash co-commissioned new work with New Music Dublin through open-submission entries.
Since the project's inception in 2006, Crash Ensemble have showcased works from composers who have gone on to become leading lights of the Irish New Music scene: among them Ed Bennett, Linda Buckley, Julie Feeney, Garrett Sholdice, and Andrew Hamilton.
