Dieter Brummer, best-known for playing Shane Parrish on Australian soap Home and Away, has died aged 45.

Brummer was found dead at his home in Sydney on Saturday and police have confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious.

"About 1.30pm, officers from The Hills Police Area Command responded to reports of a concern for welfare at a home on Glenhaven Road, Glenhaven," New South Wales Police told news.com.au.

"The body of a man was located inside the home. His death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner."

Brummer played Shane Parrish, the love interest and eventual husband of Melissa George's Angel Brooks, on the long-running soap from 1991 to 1996, appearing in 557 episodes.

He also appeared in Neighbours, Underbelly and Winners & Losers.

Brummer worked as a window-cleaner between acting roles and was running his own successful business.

In a statement to RTÉ Entertainment, a spokesperson for the Australian TV network Channel 7 said: "Home and Away and Channel 7 are deeply saddened to hear of Dieter Brummer's passing.

"Dieter was a much-loved Home and Away cast member and celebrated by Australian and international audiences for his award-winning portrayal of Shane Parrish.

"We send our sincere condolences to Dieter’s family and friends during this very difficult time."
