Irish actor Andrew Scott has been nominated for an Emmy award for his leading role in the acclaimed Netflix miniseries Ripley.

As a producer on Ripley, Scott has also received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

The moodily shot black-and-white series was created, written and directed by Steven Zaillian and was based on Patricia Highsmith's 1955 novel The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Scott starred as Tom Ripley, Dakota Fanning played Marge Sherwood and Johnny Flynn portrayed Dickie Greenleaf.

The Dublin star will compete against Matt Bomer (Fellow Travelers), Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer), Jon Hamm (Fargo) and Tom Hollander (Feud: Capote vs The Swans) in the Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or a TV Movie category at this year's Emmys ceremony.

The 47-year-old actor previously received an Emmy nomination - Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series - in 2020 for his role in the anthology series Black Mirror.

Irish costume designer Consolata Boyle also received an Emmy nomination for HBO's Kate Winslet-starring The Regime.

She is nominated in the Outstanding Contemporary Costumes For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie category, marking her third Emmy nomination. Boyle won an Emmy in 2004 for The Lion in Winter.

Boyle is currently working with Scott on Richard Linklater's Blue Moon at Ardmore Studios.

The period drama Shōgun leads this year's nominations with 25. The Bear has received 23 nominations - a new comedy record.

Netflix's The Crown, a fictionalised drama about the British royal family, received 18 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, with Imelda Staunton and Dominic West picking up nods for their roles.

The sixth series, starring Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and West as Prince Charles, was also its last and depicted the events surrounding Diana, Princess of Wales’ death and the fledgling romance between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Picking up 11 nominations was hit show Baby Reindeer, which follows the character Donny Dunn, played by writer Richard Gadd, as he is stalked by a woman called Martha Scott.

The Primetime Emmy Awards take place in Los Angeles on Sunday 15 September.
