Microsoft Dream Space and RTÉ Learn have teamed up to present brAIn_waves - a new series exploring the technology of AI. Throughout the series students will discover what AI is, how it works, and why it's important to learn about it.

Over the four shows students will be invited to complete activities to help them learn about the history of AI, what AI can and cannot do, and how AI is used in our everyday lives. Students will also explore the world of data, algorithms and machine learning.

Episode 1

In the first show we'll be learning all about Artificial Intelligence (AI) - what it is, where it is, how it works, and most importantly, why we should be exploring it.

By the end of this episode, you'll be able to outline what AI is and its history, distinguish between what AI can and cannot do, compare human intelligence with AI, and explain how AI technology is used in our everyday life with examples.

Episode 2

In this episode of brAIn_waves from RTÉ Learn and Dream Space we will be learning about algorithms. What is an algorithm and how to design one? What are the components of computational thinking?

Plus, we find out how to use MakeCode for micro:bit to code an algorithm. We will also look at chatbots and how chatbots use data sets and algorithms to support users.

Episode 3

Join Amanda and Corey as we learn about the different types of machine learning, including supervised and unsupervised learning, and see real-life examples of how these technologies are used.

You'll even get to participate in interactive AI demos, such as Video Indexer, which uses machine learning to analyse videos and provide information such as people, topics, sentiment and transcript.

Episode 4

It's time to explore Neural Networks, Generative AI, and Ethical Responsibility.

We'll explore the fascinating role of artificial neural networks in deep learning, and how they're inspired by the human brain. Discover the power of generative AI and see how it can create new, original content.
