Week 2 of Leaving Cert 2024 is nearing an end, so it's time to check in with some of students sitting the exams.

With thanks to our friends from the Irish Second-Level Students' Union (ISSU) we hear from Jessica and Enioluwafe on Business, as well as Art with Eabha. Máirín recorded two video entries for French and History too.

Massive thanks to them for taking the time out to tells us how it all went. You can also get the exam papers and reviews from teachers here.

I'd say the Business exam was honestly a very solid exam. Opened the paper and I was happy with what I saw. The short questions weren't my favourite but they we're extremely doable.

The ABQ was spectacular. Literally exactly how my teacher predicted it so happy days. There was no tricks or little things that might throw you off. I thought it was pretty straightforward and the links were easy enough to figure out.

Now the long questions were a hit or miss depending on the person. I was pretty happy though because I felt like I was able to do everything. I think for some people they felt the phrasing was a bit off and I can understand that but it wasn't anything that couldn't be done. Now that's over, we never have to do ABQ's or deal with Micheal from Caring Cupcakes Ltd again. We made it guys, only a few more to go!

I had another exam today, this time taking on art. The paper was fair and followed the same style of questions seen last year. This is only the second year of the new art course, so I was definitely nervous going in as I didn't know what to expect. Luckily, there were no big surprises.

The short questions were very straightforward, with a part (a) on analysis and part (b) on opinion. I found the question about sculpture quite strange and ended up not doing it. For the long questions, I chose to do Q11 on European Impressionism and Q18 on Irish Art and Modernism.

I really liked Q11, which asked about the influence of gender or class on art of the impressionist era. I was slightly thrown at first as it felt like quite a specific prompt, compared to last year’s much broader question. However, once I got going, I found I had lots to write about!

I found the exam a little tight for time overall, although I did attempt an extra short question to be safe. I decided at the last minute to include extra illustrations, so the last 10 minutes of the exam definitely felt like a push to finish. I’m looking forward to the weekend off and I’m counting down to the 20th of June, when I finish!

From Tuesday Máirín gave us two videos - on French and History.
