In her latest book, The Other Side, Australian writer, artist and critic Jennifer Higgie explores the extraordinary life of a group of 19th and early 20th century female artists whose often visionary work was informed by an interest in spiritualism, the afterlife and the occult.

Though painters like Hilma af Klint and Georgiana Houghton created work that seemed to anticipate surrealism and abstract art by many decades, they died forgotten, ignored by the rationalist patriarchy.

Jennifer Higgie will be discussing her book at events in Dundalk and Dublin this weekend - she talks to RTÉ Arena above.
